"First Nations peoples must embrace and master emerging technologies to harness their potential and avoid a new wave of colonisation. We must take control of our narrative in this changing world. " Tony Briggs (actor, writer, director).

Artists and creatives face significant ethical conundrums when engaging with emerging technologies, such as AI, particularly generative AI. Datasets have been trained on the intellectual property of fellow artists and creatives; the use of AI has significant impact on the environment especially water consumption; labour displacement across the arts and creative industries threaten to compromise basic workers’ rights. How do First Nations makers enter this space and how do they feel about engaging with new technologies that seem, on the surface and often in practice, to continue the colonial agenda of exploitation, accumulation, and profit?
